McKenny

An update from McKenny's new family....

Another week has gone by and Kenny has adjusted very well in my opinion, I think I've become his best friend! We enjoy him and his antics immensely, he's a good soul. I do believe he was abused at some time in his short life as when I carry a nail gun or drill or carry a long object he literally runs from me.  I walked in the house with my big nail gun and he darn near killed himself running from me.  I was shocked by his behavior and felt very bad for him. He had a trying week with me laying floor and hanging wall paper with all that noise and stuff.
He seems happy, gets upset when I leave to play golf or go out, comes in to see me at night and in the morning for a pet and hug.  Of course he knows when we're off for a walk too. He seems reasonably well trained, of course he sits and shakes, but last night when I wanted to see his foot I simply told him to lay down and he responded instantly!!!  Now if I could just get him to not pull me and heel after a while.  He kind of gets along with Keelo and is frustrated when old K won't play.  I'm going to make arrangements with my daughter to borrow her lab once a week so he has someone to run with him.
He's great fun to be with and around!!
Just thought you'd like to know all is well.
Thanx for letting us have him.!!!
Regards,......

McKenny is so happy in his new home.  We are glad to report everything is working out with his new family.  Way to go McKenny.

McKenny came into our care some time ago. He was recently transferred to a different foster home within our group. Before, his caretakers could do little more than kennel him. This did give him the company of other Malamutes and likely helped him stay compatible with other dogs. We don't know how he is with cats.

At his current foster home he is free to be a full member of the home. He has learned to use the pet door and gets on well being with the other two Malamutes (a male and an old female).

Being in the kennel limited McKenny's interaction with humans who did not live in that home. So, he was not as comfortable with people as is ideal. So far, he has been at the new foster only three weeks. He gets walked in the local pet feed store nearly every day to meet people. He has become very good with meeting people. he even lens into them and looks up eagerly for attention.

He is a very nice, playful boy of 2 1/2 to 3 years old. He only weights 75 pounds. So, he will never be a really big boy. McKenny is an active boy and benefits from having frequent walks. He is friendly with all sizes of dogs. He likes chasing squirrels and would probably chase cats. He is clean in the house. If he can't let himself out, he will pester to no end to be let out when it matters.  McKenny would love to go home with his forever family soon!

!!!   Update   !!!

June 2, 2005

McKenny had a play date with some friends.  Here are the pictures.....

April 2005

McKenny is doing splendidly. He is very good with all other dogs.  He is always ready to play with other dogs. He can even get lethargic Parry (the fosterer's own Alaskan Malamute) to play with him in the yard. That is something the other foster dogs have been unable to do, although they tried.

For most of this week (4th week here) I have left two bones down for the dogs. The dogs are free in both house and yard. They do not fight over the bones. Parry is not even talking to McKenny when McKenny has one of the bones, which is very odd. Parry still does have the capacity to warn McKenny off. If I toss a goodie and don't say who it is for, one word from Parry and McKenny leaves the area.

In playing with me, McKenny does all the normal stuff and some very cute stuff. He will come up frolicking and lay his head on the floor next to me, with his hind end high. In this contortion, he continues his mouthing. In deed, that he only mouths, never tries to hold skin, is a wonderfully odd thing about him.
